Exciting opportunity
Join us at Solhyd and make a direct impact on the future of renewable hydrogen production! We are looking for a driven Software Engineer who is ready to take ownership and shape the digital backbone of our innovative products.
In our ambitious startup, we are pioneering a unique solution for producing hydrogen gas directly from sunlight and air. Discover more about our groundbreaking technology at solhyd.eu !
What does this mean concretely
You are a key member of Solhyd’s product development team, working closely with hardware engineers and the automation engineer to build and maintain the software and firmware that powers Solhyd’s products and setups.
Software and firmware development for existing and future Solhyd products.
You are the responsible engineer for this domain and work directly with the product development team to shape functionality and safety from concept to field deployment.
You design and implement firmware for embedded systems including OS-level configuration and adaptation.
You communicate with external parties when needed for hardware development.
You develop and maintain process control software: setting up control loops, sensor integration, actuator interfaces, and safety interlocks.
You implement and maintain finite state machines (FSMs) to manage operational modes, startup sequences, error handling, and shutdown procedures of Solhyd’s products.
You develop communication protocols and data pipelines between hardware components, gateway devices, and backend systems (e.g. MQTT and Modbus).
You write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code; you set up version control practices and contribute to a professional software development workflow.
You perform software testing, debugging, and validation to ensure reliable performance in both lab and field conditions.
Maintenance and development of the online monitoring platform (Grafana-based dashboards and backend infrastructure).
You ensure continuous availability and reliability of the Grafana monitoring page used by the team and clients.
You update and extend the backend : adding new data sources, building new reporting views, or adapting dashboards to evolving needs.
Maintenance of equipment and test setups in research, product development, and commercial panels in the field — in close collaboration with the automation engineer.
You support troubleshooting and software-related interventions on lab setups and field-deployed panels, working hands-on alongside the automation engineer.
You keep setups running reliably, identifying software or firmware issues, and implementing fixes in a timely manner.
You work in a dynamic team in which you are closely embedded in product development. You report to the CTO.
Who you are
You hold at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mechatronics, embedded systems, or an equivalent field.
You have at least 5 years of experience in software and/or firmware development. Given that you will be the sole engineer responsible for this domain, you must be able to operate independently and make well-founded technical decisions without day-to-day supervision from a senior firmware engineer.
Languages:
Python is a must
Proficiency in C and/or C++ is highly valued
Fluency in Dutch & English
You have experience with embedded systems, real-time control, process automation, or industrial IoT — preferably in a hardware-adjacent product environment.
Familiarity with monitoring and visualization tools such as Grafana, InfluxDB, or similar data backends is a plus.
Knowledge of or interest in AI and machine learning techniques is a plus — for example for anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, or smart process optimization.
You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves in a start up environment where priorities evolve rapidly.
You recognize yourself in the Solhyd Values
